PTA Three For Me

Over the past several years, the Carroll Manor Elementary School (CMES) PTA has experienced a decline in volunteerism.  This is not unique to our school, as other PTAs, athletic associations, and groups across the country are experiencing the same problem. The National PTA has recognized this, and attributes it to the busy family lifestyle that most of us live.  Between work, homework, after-school activities and sports, parents are stretched very thin.  Yet the National PTA does not want parents to give up volunteering for the school and school events because the benefits are so great.   Volunteering in the schools has proven to improve student performance in significant, measurable ways. Recently the National PTA has adopted a voluntary program started by an elementary school PTA, called PTA Three For Me.  By pledging to your child that you will volunteer 3 hours, over the course of the entire year (although you can continue to volunteer as many hours as you would like past the first three), you will help out tremendously; a little help from a lot of hands goes a very long way!!CMES PTA decided to initiate this program this school year to increase volunteering, while giving volunteers the comfort knowing that they can say “no” after contributing just three hours of their time. Increasingly, a lot of work falls on the shoulders of fewer people. Consequently, we have quite a few Committee positions run by the same people for several years now. We invite and welcome new involvement and fresh ideas (in fact there are still some Committee positions waiting to be filled this year-please check out the PTA Committees section of this website for these vacancies). By giving the school, PTA, and your child just a few hours of your time, you can help SO MUCH! Please be on the look out for more information regarding this program at the beginning of school!

MAKE YOUR PLEDGE!

  • Sign a pledge card to your child and send it in to your child’s teacher.  Or, put it in the Three For Me box located in the front hall entrance of the school.
  • Through September, your name will be listed on a “helping hand” and added to our tree on the bulletin board, where your child can see it.
  • You will be contacted for any committee you sign up to assist (volunteer forms).
  • Other volunteer opportunities will be posted on the CMES website, bulletin board, newsletter, etc.
  • When you volunteer your 3 hours, log them in the Volunteer Log Book.  After that, if you are contacted to volunteer and wish not to volunteer further hours, simply tell us that you’ve fulfilled your pledge.
  • You will receive a special thank you from your child and the school.

VOLUNTEERING BENEFITS YOUR CHILD AND SCHOOL!

  • With parent volunteering, research shows that students will:
    • Earn higher grades
    • Achieve higher test scores
    • Complete homework more effectively
  • Morale for staff and teachers improve.
  • Parents who volunteer communicate more with teachers and staff.
  • Three For Me is a low-cost yet effective program.
  • Three For Me invites Dads to get involved.
  • Three For Me helps take the perception of “signing your life away” out of volunteering.
  • Parents in the classroom have the opportunity to get to know your child’s classmates.
