Carroll Manor Elementary School PTA 

Koontz Scholarship  2010

The Carroll Manor Parent Teachers Association in conjunction with the Koontz family is sponsoring a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00. This scholarship is given in memory of a dedicated, past staff member, Mrs. Virginia Koontz, who worked at Carroll Manor Elementary for 27 years. This scholarship is an on-going way that we can continue to pass on to our youth the marvelous spirit that  Mrs. Koontz passed on to hundreds of students.

The applicant must have attended Carroll Manor Elementary school for a minimum of one year.  The applicant must also demonstrate commitment to the community through school and community service.  A commitment to academic scholarship with a minimum grade point average of 2.75 is required.  Each applicant should submit a short essay, details on essay included on the application.

Each applicant should also submit the following: 

_____a completed application form

_____a copy of their transcript

_____a copy of the permanent record card showing attendance at CMES

_____a reference letter supporting their involvement in service activities

          in the school or the community

All of the above mentioned materials must be postmarked by May 7, 2010. The completed forms should be mailed to Carroll Manor Elementary School - 5624 Adamstown Road, Adamstown, MD 21710, ATTN: PTA/Scholarship Fund.  

Names of applicants are withheld from all members of the scholarship committee.  The scholarship will be presented at the awards ceremony at either TUHS or BHS depending on the location of the award recipient. The winner will not be notified until the award is presented. The scholarship recipient will be required to provide the CMES PTA with the name and address of the institution they will be attending by August 1, 2010. The award will be sent directly to the students post secondary school.

ESSAY:  Please attach an essay of not more than 200 words describing how your experiences at Carroll Manor Elementary School prepared you for secondary school.  Also describe how you plan to use your post-secondary education when you enter the community after you complete your education.
